Road Trippin'

Hello Hello,

Well, it’s been a few days since my last post. I’ve been busy entertaining guests and planning family road trips. Summer has been sailing along and I’m enjoying the ride. As I mentioned, in the last post, my friend Yvonne is visiting and we wanted to do a road trip while she was here. Last Wednesday we did just that. I have lived in Alberta for four years now and have yet to visit the neighbouring province of British Columbia, so where else to go for our road trip, but to BC. I can now claim that I have visited all of the provinces of our beautiful country. We started as a traveling party of four, my parents, Yvonne, and I. After our plans got out, we were joined by my youngest brother and my oldest brother and his son. They had some free time and wanted to tag along… the more the merrier. My sister-in-law had to work and sadly couldn’t make it. With seven people, two trucks, two coolers, a GPS, and some very laid back plans we headed off to BC. The trip was fun! Something we hadn’t done for years. Even though there was a little miscommunication, tweaked plans, and a spat here and there, it was great fun to be together again. Can’t wait till the next Pittman family road trip!!!!

Hello Fashionistas,

Can I just say again that I adore summer? Some part of me thinks that the Mayans had it right. The warmth and the light (not to mention the vitamin D) is something I look forward to after long months of cold and darkness in Northern Alberta. I am so happy it’s here and that I have the summer off from work to enjoy it! I had a great start to my summer; one of my best friends came to visit from Newfoundland. Yvonne arrived last Sunday and we have had plenty of late nights chatting and catching up. It’s been two years since I’ve seen her last, crazy how time flies! It’s been so good to see her and spend my first week of summer reading, chatting, shopping, and sleeping in.  We’re hoping to do a couple of road trips while she is visiting, I’ll keep you informed!

The Canola fields are in full blossom and are looking radiant this time of year. We thought we would take advantage of it and snap a few photos! While I hope to return to Newfoundland to live in a few years, I’ll miss the seas of yellow. Hope you enjoy!

An Upcycled Beauty!

Hello friends,

Welcome back, hope you're having a great summer! My vaca started as of last Friday. I am enjoying the long lazy days with the help of a few good books and a cold drink! My long time friend, Yvonne, arrived from Newfoundland on Sunday. She'll be staying for a few weeks. I'm looking forward to the adventures we will have together. I'm sure there will be a blog post or two to keep you informed hehehe! Long live summer!!!!

This post is about one of my latest DIY projects, an upcycled jewelry box. I found this lovely piece at a yard sale (I’m an admitted yard sale- aholic) for the low low cost of five dollars. I passed on the piece at first because the color did not match that of my bed room. Later I reconsidered, and thought this would be an excellent DIY project for my next blog post. Also, my jewelry collection has grown and needed a new home.

DIY Deets:

The supplies I used for this project were a can of spray paint; the color is “Bahama Sky”, sand paper, and a piece of cardstock.

I started out with removing the glass and photo portion of the piece. Then gave it a light sanding and cleaned the box.

Next I started to spray paint it with several coats until there was no trace of the cherry wood left.

After I achieved the color I wanted, I found a matching piece of cardstock and inserted that into the photo sections, rather than use photos. I chose a fun piece of paper with peacock feathers on it. The blues in the paper worked perfect with the blues and browns in my room.

I added these baskets to hold my smaller jewelry like rings and earrings. They fit perfectly; I was worried they would be too big.

The total project cost me around twenty dollars, five for the jewelry box, six for supplies, and nine for the baskets. Add to that a little elbow grease and you got yourself a great upcycled jewelry box for little cost. I’m pleased with how it turned out and so is my jewelry! Thanks again for reading!
